It depends on which Lancer. If you go with the EVO, then that's quite a big jump in money from the Eclipse. It's a $10,000 difference, the Evo isn't in the same ball park as the Eclipse. The AWD on the EVO is very nice. Power is very smooth through all gears and the turbo picks up exactly when you may need it. I prefer the EVO because it has four doors and if I have 3 friends riding, then I don't have to adjust my seat like I would in the Eclipse. I use to have a Prelude and I always hated moving my seat back and forth, plus the people sitting in the back don't have a lot of space.

Insurance for both will be a lot because they are considered sports cars. If you get the regular Lancer, it will look plain. But the one good thing about it is that it does 35 MPG which is far ahead of any other car.

Don't get a Chevy. Those things will spend more time in the shop than on the road. Mitsubishi also offers a 10 year warranty on all their cars, which is great! Not that you'll ever need it, but it's nice to have. All other dealers will ask you to pay more on top of the standard 6 year warranty.

The EVO is decked out with racing pedals, aluminum shifter, 17 inch rims, and a banging sound system. But under the hood is where it counts. You can readjust the turbo and the chip but then it would void your warranty. But already it kicks close to 290hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque. The 4g63 engine is the most powerful inline 4 ever assembled. It's sick!

Then you can get an Eclipse, or Eclipse Spyder. Let's put it this way, if you can only afford the Eclipse, then go with that. Because an extra $10,000 plus options is almost double the price of the Eclipse. Eclipse goes for around $21 000, EVO IX starts at $32 000 but with the spoiler, CD player, and everything else, it comes closer to $40 000, and by that time you really should be looking at an Infiniti G35 or Acura TL.

Im assuming your looking at a basic lancer ce and not the evo or ralliart or oz rally.

Comparing the two, I would go for the lancer for more economical car then the eclipse. For more comfort and style, the eclipse has the win. If you have the money, go with the eclipse. The new model is quite nice its just the back that bothers me whenever I see one. If you want just a basic car then go with the lancer. If you want to modify one of these two then go with the lancer as you can turn that into a beast such as the evo.

Depends on which Lancer or Eclipse submodel you prefer or can afford to pay. A base 2006 Lancer ES, one of the $14,000 models, is much cheaper then the starting price of a 2006 Eclipse (~$19,500.) The best bang for the buck for a Lancer (not including an Evolution,) is the Lancer Ralliart, which includes a 162 HP 4 cylinder, and sport suspension. It also most likely cheaper to insure primarily because it's a four door. Eclipses' are nice, but I would go with a Lancer Ralliart.

i would recommend the eclipse the lancer's wimpy 4 cylinder engine is a let down and is a piece of crap unless you are thinking of the lancer ralliart or the evo that is 2003 or newer

i have an 99 eclipse but between an evo and an eclipse i would choose a evo just because they are a rocket out of the box 17's 160+ hp AWD yeah it would be an evo 8 definitely.

In my opinion the evo is better. It has a 4 cylinder 2L. engine that churns out 400+ horsepower, plus the cars onboard computer can adjust exactly where the power becomes distributed. Going around certian corners it means that the evo can be a 1 wheel drive. All of this is the evo mr.
