Gangs and terrorists are NOT the same.

Gangs by and large have no political or religious ideaology that motivates their activities. Their sole motivating factor is usually greed whether it be drugs money, prostitiution, protecting their little turfs, etc.

Terrorists are actually fighting FOR something that they BELIEVE is the right thing, and they use any and all means at their disposal to achieve those objectives whether it's blowing up a building, bus, or hospital to killing innocent civilians.

No. They are quite different.

Gangs purpose is to protect themselves, and the things they control. They fight against the people who try to encroach on this territory, or percieved danger.

Terrorism is, by definition, the threat of violence (or those who do so) for a certain goal, with civilians being the main target. In otherwords, they use the threat of killing innocent civilians to further their own purpose or goals, because it is the easiest route to attention.

I hope you see the distinction here. Gangs do not intentionally prey on civilians, though they often seem to get caught up.

Although very different in a lot of ways, I would say that they are similar because they use the same general psychological tactic: terror.

i see a similarity, but

-most gangs don't have the money of most terrorists groups
-most gangs don't try to blow up buildings

A gang won't fire RPGs or send suicide bombers.

They're similar, but they work on different levels.
