I work at the corporate hq of a big company but it is a position not in my field. I think I was rejected by the director in a department I want to intern in. I interviewed with him and wrote him a thank you email. When I returned to work two weeks later, I never heard anything from him. The day we walked pass each other and all we said was hi and never mentioned anything about the internship that I want. I feel like awkard and weird when I see him.

Was there anyone in HR involved? If so, you should make an appointment with HR and ask for specific feedback and tips of what you should do to make yourself a more competitive candidate next time around. Don't feel awkward, this is just part of corporate life.

You can go to your Human Resources Department and see if the position was filled. It is possible they filled it with a candidate that had some lower level experience in the field and wished to advance. It is not necessary for him to give you an explanation, but your Human Resources Department should. You say you were rejected, don't feel awkward or take this personally. You were not on a name basis before and it is strictly business, if he had not responded when you greeted him then perhaps I would have. It's not personal.
