Although a "communist" country, China does value capitalism. That is the reason China's economy is prospering. Trade with the U.S. is an essential part of the economic growth. Therefore the relation between the people's republic and the U.S. will be that of beneficial and peaceful coexistence. There will always be suspicion among both governments, but that will mostly remain ideological differences which won't actually materialize into any serious disputes.

US holds a strange expectation from China (or any country for the matter) in order to qualify as a friend of US.
China needs to play by US rules, meets US interest and of course be willing support the US at her expense !!! With this type of friends, China is better off making enemy with US.
US has being suspicious of China, and even feel threaten by China - and wants to contain China. On the contrast, the other way round - the Chinese have a healthy respect for ALL countries.
Taking down to a personal level, it will be unimagable to have true friendship with anyone who imposes on my rights as a individual. I may still consider a well-guarded partnership on the basis of neccessity

The diplomatic relationship between the two has always been chilly, with the US's support of Taiwan always being a bone of contetion. Economically though, both countries would really be hurting without each other. I predict that nothing will really change for awhile, until China decides to change things. America doesn't have a lot of sway in terms of Chinese policy decisions.

Relations in bad way,far away from good. They deslike american politics and govt. In 90's USA supported some politics, which ruined life of millions for very fast time period. Then Soros,McCain and some others made revolts in border with Russia countries to isolate Russia. Now missile shield +some other little problems of our relationship.

North Korea doesn't factor into anything.
Depends on how China's economy does. Capitalism. And chances are it will be an economic Cold War. Both sides want to be dominant, both sides have to pretend to play nice.
