I am seven months pregnant and this is my fourth pregnancy. My first delivery was less pain because I was using an epidural. For my second and third, it was so painful labour that I push in the first stage of labour while having contractions hoping to speed up the birth . Fortunately, it speed up the opening process, even the midwives was surprise. But now, I`m worried... will that effect my body? I know this is not the way. You have to push in the second stage of labour for the birth of the baby.

it is not such a good idea to push in the first stage of labour because it can sometimes lead to swelling of the cervix, among other organs, and as a result, the cervix may fail to dilate further. It has happen many a times, and the mother may end up having a caesarean section.

It is also a waste of your energy because you are not going to be able to push the baby out if the cervix is not fully dilated yet.

Pushing in the first stage of labour, before you are fully dilated, is tiring and pointless. If you pushed too much you could end up with a swollen cervix. Your cervix would most likely open faster anyway with second and subsequent babies, and not due to pushing. You wouldn't have any after-effects though.

It's best not to push until you are fully dilated and effaced (completely open) because pushing too soon will cause bruising and swelling in that area. That will make you a lot more sore later on. It could also possibly hurt the baby because you're trying to push it through when the opening is not big enough for it to go through yet.

It can not be o.k. You are not dilated enough for that. I think it would or could hurt the baby!!! I would just listen to what the docs say. If the pain is too much go with the epidural.
