Do you do it to make sure its clear that you accept them?
Do you do it out of pitty?

Do you feel better making that social connection with someone of a different race than if you had made the same connection with someone of your own?

Sometimes, sort of. Especially when I have been in different countries, yes I have been nicer than usual and probably more consciously respectful. They are often different race than I. Also, they are often way more interesting to me than the people I grew up with and have been around much of my life. Im not too afraid of being labeled a racist. I do think most all of us are to some, even very small degree - guilty of being aware or judging others on some level in many superficial ways including skin color and cultural assumptions. I dont think the idea is to pretend we dont, just being aware of when we do. It helps to talk about it openly and honestly, with people of varying races.
Definitely not out of pity, more out of liveliness and appreciation. good question.

This is a really good question. I find myself being nicer to people in groups that have faced discrimination.

The reason I do it is because discrimination takes a toll on people and sometimes they seem a bit unsure of being accepted.

Additionally, I was brought up in a discriminatory environment, so I've tried to make up for avoiding people different from me. And I don't want my children to be discriminatory because that will negatively affect their relationships.

So

yes, no, yes, no, yes

I treat everybody reciprocally.

Sometimes a group of people who fall under one race all act in the same jackass way, and I'll gladly call them out for it.

The term "racist" is a load of ****.

It's the 21st century. EVERYBODY knows that everybody else is equally capable, so anybody who spouts out that **** is simply covering up something. It's a word that minorities hide against in order to get special benefits. They're babies, and they're going to have to learn to survive in a modern world without special assistance because, let's face it, they're EQUAL. They're not retarded. And if anybody is offended by being called a perfectly capable human being, well, you can go kill yourself.

All that said- let me catch my breath- I find other cultures interesting. So I definately like to talk to and learn from people from other countries and races etc.
But the moment anybody get's preachy about me being a stupid, filthy, Bush/Clinton supporting American't, I'll kick their Euro-Hippie asses back to Amsterdam.

me?
1) i regard all people (even if they're all of different races) at the same level, approach them as a friend...
2) why should i fear being labeled racist when i know i'm not?... 3) approaching people, conversing with them, showing kindness and respect, why would they ignore me, right?
4) of course not... showing pity denies them of their dignity, of their culture.. be one with them, rejoice with them, be hurt as they are...
5) as i've said, making friends even across borders is a welcome for me... no man is an island, no man stands alone, right?

hope i've show that i have high regards whomever i meet, wherever i go, and whatever you are... = )
