I really like the Knossos, Minotaur story. You know, when Thesius slew the minotaur with the help of his little princess friend. The story itsself is fine, but their is a darker undertone towards the end that basically says that all humans have never changed.
The part where he married his little princess helper and then decided it would be better for her if he left her on a desolate rock island while he went out and had fun like the man he was. Someone somewhere must have hated telling that part, since they added the section where the feathered shoed Mercury/hermes flew by and whisked her away to save her from the misery of lonliness. It's a sad tale that speaks volumes about people in general and how quick their minds change without really having changed it. It's all selfish greed and prominence of power.

I love individual myths but my favorite part about mythology is tracing the families through all their descendents. It gives kind of a structure and timeline to all the myths, instead of knowing them as isolated incidents. Everything is connected! Cadmus and Europa are actually COUSINS with Danaus and Aegyptus, because their fathers are both the sons of Poseidon and a nymph, Libya. how cool is that?!
