probabley trips on acid and writes down some ideas about whatever freaks him out. Maybe these acid trips are negative and he keeps having negative trips so he writes them down. In that case these negative trips are really good because they make him rich, that lucky bastard

No he is not insane. It is called imagination. Sometimes when a writer is really good. You think of a really good story topic. Then as you are writing this story. You visualize it. You make you self that main character. the situation you write in the story. You picture if I was this guy what would I be doing. Then let you imagination take you into dream world. That is what makes Stephen king a great writer.

Blank,
his mind has the capacity to
grasp things in his own unique
way.
And he has the ability to create
extraordinary plots with his
talent.
I he sane or insane?
We would need to define them,
and I would vote for sane
with a unique and different
talent.
We read him,
we understand his novels,
so we're relating, aren't we?
Here's looking at talent...
Stay well.

"It" was inspired in part by "the three billy goats bluff" (the troll under the bridge).
'Salem's Lot was inspired by a conversation between him and his wife on how Dracula's hostile takeover would happen(be out in the country because in New York he would probably be hit by a taxi)
"that thing you say only when it is in french" a short story in "everything's eventual" is Stephen king's vision of hell.
Needful Things was written as a joke about the 80's.
as for Cujo he wrote most of that while he was high on drugs.

Read this site I found for you about him and decide if you think any hints are given as to his sanity. I've always thought he to be quite eccentric, and eccentricity lends to insanity, depending on the degree of it. Have you read "Something Wicked This Way Comes," by Ray Bradbury? He's an eccentric writer but not on the evil level of King.

I think I read somewhere that he thinks of his talent as more of a curse than a gift- so the better question regarding him would be "how can he stop coming up with his stories?"- happy reading

I believe he takes the slightest bit of fact or an idea about an episode in his life or someone he knew and really runs his imagination with it.
