first you need to have CD-RW (cd-writer)/DVR-RW(dvd-writer) - this is a hardware.

-you need to install it to you computer

-when you start winxp, driver will install itself
-now in order to burn cds/dvds you'll need install the software that
came with the hardware(cd-rw/dvd-rw) it could be nero, or
something else.
-those software has a wizard that will ask you wat you want to
do,and you'll see the option that says, make audio cd...

its very simple... all you have to have is the hardware and the blank-cds

A CD burner is for copying stuff (music, photos, documents, etc) onto a disc. Basically like a giant floppy disc. Yes, you will have to buy one if your computer does not have one. There are two types of CD burners, the one you put in the computer (internal), and the one that you can just plug in (external). They come with software to help copying stuff. Windows XP also has software that will pop up when you want to "burn" stuff to a disc. So you don't have to really buy any software, just the CD burner.
