There is such a thing as a "natural born leader" but most leaders are taught some aspects of being a leader by a coach, teacher, boss, parent, mentor along the way. Companies and other organizations offer leadership training. The most effective I ever attened is one that asks you to get in touch with who you are as a person, what you value, and what implications that has for you in leading.

Leaders should stand for something and should be quietly confident and "in charge". Maturity is essential. Leaders are really servants...they serve those they lead.

Absolutely. It is true that the military trains its militants on leadership. They train them on chain of command, core values, ethics and more. I was in the marines and learned a lot of very useful leadership tactics and ways to deal with a lot of situations from a leadership pint of view.

Your parents and the teachers you have had were trained by their parents and teacher to be able to live, lead, and survive on their own. You yourself have learned from what they have taught you and if you have children you lead and guide them based upon what the leaders and teachers in your life have taight you.

So just as they train managers that have never worked as a leader or manager before you can definately be taught. The key is not to take it to the head once you get it. Be a good leader and have tact.

Leadership is usually taught, but it is more efficient, when practised, by managers efficiently. A leader must be a follower, and thats what leadership is all about
