The gov. is afraid that if the Bible is used as a text book, the ppl will learn that we have a free will, & rights - & makes us pretty hard to control. Evolution teaches we are all a bunch of monkeys with no purpose - which would make us pretty easy to control. Hitler once sayed "You let me control the text books, I'll control the state"!
And actually there is nothing illegal about teaching the Bible in school. There has never been a law against it!

The Founding Fathers knew what they were doing. Because of the abuse of the freedoms we enjoy we have become a spiritually bankrupt nation, and it is not what the Founding Fathers intended to happen.
They saw the God-given gift of The U.S. - which was their dream and cost many lives, as a government based on Godly, Biblical principles.
People do not even realize that any more and have taken a direction that has caused moral and spiritual deterioration.
Look at what has happened without the Bible in schools - do those who are against the Bible like what is happening in schools? Violence, teen pregnancy, rampant disrespect... for those who are against the Bible and it's teaching what are your answers to this? To establishing needed morality and ethical convictions based on your beliefs in nothing
We have become so self-absorbed and counter-productive to the basis of our freedoms. We have been given the choice and responsibilty that freedom gives... and are not keeping it.
Virtue is the basis with education - read what the Founding Fathers wrote... they were 90% God-fearing Christians and probably never imagined we would so abuse the gifts they gave us with atheism and moral deprivation.

You are right Congress did order 20,000 bibles in 1777, to be imported from select European countries, but they were not ordered to be used in schools. Whoever was so kind to release that information to you probably was lying.
You also referred to the separation of church and state. Now you are correct in saying that those words are not in the law books verbatim, but the "separation of church and state" ideology or mandate is a direct and obvious interpretation of the establishment clause of the first amendment. So please do a little research yourself before you make erroneous claims to the world.
Thank you for your time,
Your sworn enemy, The founding fathers of The United States of America

the Bible is used at times in school.. in literature classes and law classes...
but, I also think, that the founding fathers had a lot of good ideas, but not all of them were good... like I think women should be allowed to vote and own land... and I don't think black people should be slaves... and they should be allowed to vote too...
oh.. and it's not a "law" but it's how the supreme court defined the law... which basically makes it the law... you could look up the cases in the supreme court... I don't remember off hand which ones those cases were though...

You can't even read the BIBLE in its original context. What makes you think we can apply the founding fathers to today's situation? Where the hell is slavery? Let's bring back the rule that whoever loses the presidential election is by default the vice president.
Good grief.

That silly little thing in the Constitution called "separation of church and state".
But if you would like to argue about this, then how are we going to teach "religion" in schools that is fair and impartial to every child in the school? If you isolate, then you segregate, which is illegal. Besides, if you want your religion in school, there is always parochial schools, right??
Just some thoughts on that. . .

Sure, let's all get back to the 18th century, where we know NOTHING about human rights and violate just about every other religion out there! While we're at it, why not nuke every country who doesn't believe in christianity! Turn this planet into a radioactive ball, all for your religion! It's people like you that are holding society back, redneck.

i read the bible in school as literature. i think everyone should, because it forms the basis for so much of western culture and our history. common phrases like "pearls before swine" and "the writing on the wall" come from it, and are being corrupted because people lack knowledge of their origin, and therefore their meaning and context is lost.
and that is perfectly legal. there are lots of schools that already do it.

But do you know who proposed ordering those Bibles? I believe it was Thomas Jefferson, who was the leader of his church Sunday School.
