Well when picking a shade of lip gloss, lipstick or any thing go the perfesonials, like for instance a MAC counter they have a range of colors or go to another counter like PERSCRIPTIVES they can even make a foundation just for your skin.

I think nothing beats a good lipgloss. It looks natural and flirty but if it's not TOO glossy, it can be subtle and classy.
