no sometimes they will refuse to breed and the male will try to kill the female. You just have to try it and see if the male is still attacking the female and not building a bubble nest after about 24 hours then pull the female out. if your not trying to breed them then dont put them together. the male will usually get sick of the female after a while and try to kill her.

No. Because, sometimes the females act like human women and think that they are 'Better than' and act all stuck-up when the male wants to get his groove on! So they start arguing, and stuff gets thrown around the fish bowl! The neighbors call the Betta police! By then it's too late! One has a broken fin, the other a broken heart. So they attend counseling. They open up about how they really feel! Come to find out, she was a 'Gold Fish' digger! lol

I think so. I had a female once upon a time, but I do remember hearing that it's the male-male combo that doesn't work. Male-female is a good match.

Some times the male will kill the female. Sometimes the female will kill the male.

No, and the female might not like him either. They can actually be very picky when it comes to mating. The finnage of both sexes, and the size of the individual fish are large factors.
I would not recommend breeding. I stated why in another answer.

Females and males will always get along together fine, you just cant put two males together because they will kill eachother for the female.

No, you can put them in two bottles and let them seeing each other. After two or three days you may try to put them together.

I don't think it has anything to do with 'liking' as much as the Need to reproduce.

Yes, always. They can't help themselves - they're like teenage boys.
