No idea, ask your mom. But you should tell her the advantages such as being able to build credit. I had a credit card like you are talking about when I was really young, prepaid with my own money. I was able to build credit so when I went to college I was able to buy a car, get a real credit card without a co-signer, and a student loan without my parents co-signing, and an apartment without my parents co-signing. Building credit is important. Bring it up to your mom that you want to build credit and tell her why. Suggest that you set a limit of $50 per month so she can see how responsible you are and tell her she will have full access to your statements every month. If she doesn't go for that then I don't know what to tell you. Good Luck!

Maybe she just doesn't want you to spend your money. Save it for something really cool- I always wished I had saved my money when I was young- now I'm broke!
