At this point, his prognosis isn't really very good... Honestly, I really don't think they're keeping Barbaro's best interests in mind. If he does pull through, he'll be in that sling and casts for almost a year. He probably won't be very sound ever again (yes, sound for breeding, but he will never be able to be turned out into a large pasture due to the risk of him reinjuring himself) and both his hind legs will be weakened from the fractures, but with the laminitis... it's an incurable lifelong curse. Even though I am a fan of Barbaro, I think the best thing they could do for him is to put him down... :(

So much can happen to an animal . He does not understand why he is strung up all day. With todays technology we have the power to do so much and their are pleanty of stories that proove horses have heart. i hope he is ok. But what about his mental staus and his health aside from the leg. bacteria. Poor digestion from lack of movement. a number of things. lets pray!!

no he's not going to be ok. they 'd had to replace some of his screws and now he's developed an infection. which they pretty much knew he would. they will have trouble breeding him because the break is in the hind leg and breeding "live cover" will put a lot of strain on that leg. unless they artificially inseminate,which they can't do with thoroughbreds, it might work.

if they woorkwith him long enough and let him heal he would be good for a breeding horse since he was a good racer they could make a lot of money out of him to me thats wat they should do with retired race horses
