Whole, direct from the breast. I've never heard of skim milk, except for *cow's* milk--something *no* baby should *ever* have before the first birthday.

This depends on a lot of factors. If this baby is, 6 months old, it should be eating whatever formula your pediatrician has recommended. Formula has a lot of vitamins that are not in whole, 2% or skim milk. Some of these added nutrients ensure brain development, good eyesight, and controlled amounts of fat.

Usually after 12 months, a pediatrician will recommend switching the infant to a certain type of milk. Overweight babies should not have whole milk. Whole milk turns a baby cow into a full grown cow in 3 to 6 months. It is very rich and has way too much fat in it for a child who is already heavy. It's also hard to digest.

Talk this over with your doctor before making any changes to your baby's diet.

I totally respect the fact that people are saying breast is best, despite the fact that my daughter was allergic and couldn't breastfeed, but aren't you meaning 1 and 2 year olds? If so, whole milk is usually recommended, but 2% is used a lot because some kids can't handle the richness and fats in whole milk and it can make them sick. Me personally, I'd go with 2% unless you know your child can handle the whole milk.

Until a child is 12 months old, no milk except breast milk. Or formula.

From 12 months to 2 years, whole milk only. Their bodies and brains need the fats, etc., in whole milk to develop and grow.

After 2 years, they can drink whatever you drink. Skim, 1%, 2%...all fine.

My three-year-old drinks 2%.

You should give your baby whole milk from age 1 to 2. Once he turns two, you can give him 2%, 1%, but you don't have to...you can continue with whole milk if you want.

as in 6 month olds?!? 6 months old should not have milk, it is hard on their digestive systems, they should be on formula until the age of one, and then whole milk until the age of 2 and after that it depends on their calorie needs, my 4 and 2 yr old's are pretty small so we do either whole or 2% but some (obese) children should be on 1% or skim!

My son's pediatrician told us formula until a year. From 1 year until 2, only whole milk. Then 2+ it does not matter.

if the child is 6 months old, he or she should still be drinking breastmilk. It has all the nutrients that a infant should have and needs. Once the baby is about 1 year old, he or she can begin to transit to regular milk

AFTER THE AGE ONE A CHILD SHOULD DRINK WHOLE MILK, THEIR LITTLE BODIES NEED THE FAT THAT IS IN WHOLE MILK, THEY ARE GROWING AND THIS TYPE OF FAT IS OKAY!! THAT DOESN'T MEAN FILL THE BABY UP WITH FATTY FOOD JUST GIVE'EM WHOLE MILK, CHEESE, YOGURT, COTTAGE CHEESE AND OTHER HEALTHY DAIRY FOOD WITH FULL FAT NOT THE LIGHT KIND!! dint FORGET THE FRUIT AND VEGGIES TOO!! WE NEED TO "GROW" A NATION OF HEALTHY KIDS FOR A CHANGE! ALL THE FAST FOR AN THE CONVENIENT FOODS AVAILABLE ARE NOT GOOD FOR OUR KIDS AND WE NEED TO CHANGE THIS!! for EXAMPLE IF YOU GO McDONALDS FORGET THE POP OR SODA AND GET THE KID MILK!! FORGET THE KOOL-AID AND GIVEM JUICE!! this IS FOR ALL THE YOUNG MOTHERS THAT THINK THIS STUFF IS OKAY FOR THEIR KIDS, IT IS OK SOMETIMES AS A TREAT NOT ALL THE TIME!! ENJOY THE BABY AND HAVE FUN!!

what do you mean? 1/2 yr. olds? Are you saying 6 mo. olds? If so, then formula until he/she is 1 yr. old. Then switch to Whole. Unless your baby has some sort of problem with his/her stomach. Then you sould use like a lactose free milk.
