We have often heard that the Holocaust was the worst atrocity and genocide to have ever happened on earth. Yet in the same spectrum we forget that Germany also killed 20 MILLION Russians (non-combatant Soviets) compared to the 6 million Jews. Also Japan killed about 30 MILLION Filipinos, Malays, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Indonesians and Burmese, at least 23 million of them being ethnic Chinese. Both forced the people into forced labor. Japan used the female captives as forced prostitutes to all their front-line soldiers. They all face the same situations as the Jewish people but yet they are almost forgotten. I am saying this not to forget the Holocaust but to ALSO remember the other events in history at this same time. So please tell me how the Holocaust is the worst genocide ever???

If you can't believe my facts just look into any good history book. Hell even check wikipedia. The only true difference is that the holocaust was a religious persecution rather than a racial/ethnic one.

The Holocaust is considered the worst genocide ever because it was against the Jews. By the "history writers" the judasim, jews are more valuable in the history books. We have the saying history is written by the winners, and the winners being the United States and the Western World our religion which is the most important peice of culture to people originiated in Israel. One person mentioned slavery how the slave trade lasted for over 200years and how slaves were rapped beaten and treated less than human, but Africa has no value to the Western World. If the Dome of the Rock, Holy Sepulchar and The Western Wall were in Rhwanda, nations would have acted on the genocide that took place there.

Jews are the chosen people from our cultures primary religion, and they will always be seen in history as the people that have recieved the most harm.

Not to detract from anyone's sufferings but Millions of German Civilians also died both during and after the war.

James Bacque, in his book Crimes and Mercies estimated that as many as 13.7 million Germans died needlessly of decease and starvation in post war Germany. That was deliberate and under the noses of American, British and Russian occupying forces.

Also, during the war German Civilians were also the targets of Allied bombings as was the case in Dresden. Dresden was a city with no military significance. Estimates but the death toll in one single night at as many as 1/2 million people.

I'm not trying to make any judgments but these are facts that are rarely known, taught or remembered at least in my home country of Canada. I don't really know about ranking genocides, they all terrible. Good point by mark_b too.

There is no single event of mass killing that can compare to the longevity and shear brutality of the slavery era. Before they even made it over here they were murdered and females raped while on the ships. Piled up on top of each other like dogs. Dead laying on top of live slaves. People being thrown overboard alive because the captain under estimated how much food he would need to feed them. The numbers still haven't been tallied exactly. There was just too many.

The holocaust is regarded as the worst because of the way the Nazis carried it out... Auschwitz was essentially a big death factory. It is the cold precision which with the Nazis implemented the 'final solution' that people remember... Stalin and the Japs may have been worse in terms of sheer numbers but the Nazis were the worst in terms of methodology and efficiency.
