Dick Nixon- thank you for your thoughtful reply. Your analogy does help me put it in a different light. So are you saying that it all comes down to how the Israelis have been fighting their own "war on terror"? I thought there might be specific reasons like putting troops on certain lands etc.

well...where can we start....let's see...
They moved in to the area and decided to take some land and call it their own.
Recently...they've bombed the crap out of the Palestinians, kidnapped their government officials, and killed innocent civilians who were hanging out on the beach.
Then they flew a fighter jet over the Syrian President's home.
Oh....yeah...then they started on Lebanon....bombing their roads, airports, and suburbs. Suburbs???? What is in a suburb?
I'm sure there's more...but do you need to hear it?

Well, I think the "ideological differences" concept has been over done and overstated. Honestly, after reading Arab and Jew by David K. Shipler, I think it is safe to say the differences have more to do with circumstances than anything else.
Let us suppose in fifty years, when Spanish is the dominant language of the United States, Mexico decides it is time to take the United States for their "settlers". Mexico gives all of it's former residents the nicest houses in Hollywood Boulevard, Beverly Hills, and San Francisco, while the Americans are forced to all live in East St. Louis. A bit extreme, but perfectly reasonable for the Mexicans living in California
Mexico launches a huge military campaign to make sure that there is no resistance. Let us also suppose that China is the most powerful military power in the world (funding and personnel). They supply Mexico with food and supplies to carry on the military campaign.
Well, of course we expect Texas and California, under Mexican control, to fight back against the Mexican army, but what if Canadian American-sympathizers decide to make some fertilizer bombs, load them into trucks, and then runs them into Mexican check points? Is that terrorism? According to our definition, you're darn tootin' it's terrorism. Civilians could be killed, an "extremist" group was responsible, and it was to meet political ends.
Well, this is by no means a precise historical comparison, but I think it is fair to say that Hezbollah sympathizes for displaced Palestinians. I don't think I need to elaborate on the horrendous war atrocities on the part of the Israelis. I am shocked there isn't a stronger movement against Israeli foreign policy. Nothing says "we care" like ignoring the Israeli army mutilating entire towns of women and children when somebody blows up a Volvo in the middle of a town.
"It is a response to terrorism," is a common opinion I have heard about the atrocities committed by the Israelis. I assure you, blowing up a car and killing a few Israeli soldiers is bad, but the oppression felt by Palestinians is far worse.

Israel is the land of "the chosen people". Islam is starkly different from Judaism. Middle eastern hatred will always exist until Israel is dissolved however that could happen...and somehow I think I hope it never does. Power is everything...equal distribution is better than some type of takeover.
