every once in a while you see a black guy with dread locks like sevendust, bob marly or a guitar god like jimi hendrix that have proven that its not just all about the beats and raps.in fact everyone knows that more white people listen to hip hop than black people listen to rock. why is that? Ok, maybe because its more popular.but is it so bad to listen to rock?

I don't know about everyone else but I do like the hard stuff. Maybe some just like their music more mellow and soulful. Or, maybe it's not cool for a black to admit liking rock and metal. when I wanted to go to the Def Leppard/Journey concert, my husband looked at me like I had two heads. It wasn't that way back in the days of Jimi. Blacks played the guitar and rocked out! Remember the Isley Brothers.

Oh, it just occurred to me that the death of the black band may have something to do with this. Black band were very common in the 70's. Black bands all but died out in the 80's when synthesized music became popular (thanks Stevie). Now, hardly any blacks are playing instruments anymore. Thank God for Prince!

No trust me, chances are if you were to tell them you're an atheist your family would flip out even more. I say this based on past experience of both having told my family that I was a Satanist and an atheist. They reacted much worse to my atheism. If you are not an atheist, then don't tell them that. I would either just tell your parents the truth and let the chips fall where they may OR have fun with it. What do I mean by have fun with it? Pick a confirmation name that has a darker meaning instead of the normal ones people pick. Catholic mass does have a lot of interesting symbolism that can be very easy to adapted to other kinds of rituals and in that respect it isn't a complete waste of time.

I think it depends alot on what an individual wants to get out of the music they listen to. There are more "white people" that listen to rap than "blacks" that listen to or play rock or metal.......Its not a bad thing what you want to listen to, as long as its music, and as long as you want to learn, and expierience different things. Personally I think its time some REAL rap artists start paying attention to this. There are a bunch of bigger rock/metal bands out there that have been bridging this gap for a long time.

It's really up to the person. A person should like what he/she wants, not what people of the same color like. Absolutely every person on Earth is a human, but we all look different. We could have different hair, face, or even skin color, and we're still human. Skin is just a color. If you're black and like rock/metal music, go for it. Everyone is a human just like everyone else and shouldn't be offended for it.

I blame the fact that people tend to be sheep and the media and MTV tell them what to think and who to like.

Because rock music sounds like bullcrap . Its just like a bunch of pots hitting each other. All they ever talk about is death and suicide.
