No. They are indirect taxes. A direct tax is on your possessions. An indirect tax is on your income. The theory is that the federal system is largely responsible for the profit so they get a piece of the action.

Contrary to what another person has posted, income tax is a direct tax. A direct tax is a tax that cannot be shifted to others. Income and property taxes are both examples of a direct tax.
However, the classification of income tax as a direct or indirect tax is not relevant. The federal government's power to collect income tax is specifically authorized by the 16th. Amendment.

No, income taxes are not.. They are a monopoly making money illegally, but then have the nerve to arrest and audit witin the law ...funny how things work...
