This is actually the last thing I want to do, but as embarrassing as it is, I’m going nuts. I’ll try to keep this as short as I can.
Back in April I came down with symptoms (burning during urination, after urination, frequent urge to urinate even when urine wasn’t present) of a UTI just prior to my appointment for my Pap, however by the time the actual appointment arrived, four days later, my symptoms had subsided. But I wanted the doctor to check it out anyways, just to be on the safe side. The day before this appointment my BF had one with the same doctor and while he was there he reminded her that I was coming in the next day and told her some of my situation (symptoms, lack of medical insurance etc). When I went to my appointment she had no interest in testing for the UTI because she formed the opinion that it was Chlamydia, which I’m guessing she formed after speaking with my BF. I informed her that it couldn’t be that and told her that I had a history of UTIs as a child. But she did the routine Pap and Chlamydia tests anyways.
The tests ended up coming back, it wasn’t Chlamydia and my Pap was normal. She didn’t follow-up on this and at the time it seemed as if it had went away on its own. A month later, in May the symptoms returned, but not as bad as the first time. Also, this month’s period didn’t come. Instead I had a cinnamon like looking debris in my urine, but nothing that looked like blood. I made another doctors appointment with her and went back, this time my grandmother accompanied me, which was a good thing because she had to literally ask the doctor to give me a Urinalysis. She got my sample, pointed out that there was blood and pus in it, gave me a three day treatment of antibiotics and sent me home. The following week she called to inform me that my tests had come back normal, other than showing signs of dehydration. I was caught off guard first because I wasn’t informed at the time that she was going to be sending it off (Urinalysis in office is $9 and culture was $250).
A month later, in the first week of June I was having the same feelings of discomfort. I was in the drug store when I spotted a home UTI Detecting Kit (which made me want to scream because I had already received the bills from what I had done thus far, and this test was only $10), which I took home and tried. Surprise, when it showed that I still had a UTI. It just so happened that my BF had an appointment with her the next day, so I called the office to let them know that I would be accompanying him so that I may speak to the doctor about these problems (lack of care, but eagerness to charge). The next day we went in, and it was nothing but a pain. She was rude, told me that I was untreated because I failed to contact her sooner and offered to do a free Urinalysis. I told her she wasn’t getting anything else out of me that she could charge me for because at this point she’s made nothing but money off me and two months later I’m still sitting around with a UTI. After she started yelling at me in front of my BF, I simply walked out to avoid being arrested because I knew I would knock her on her ***. My BF later said that after I walked out she apologized to HIM and offered to refund one of the office calls she charges me for (a whole whopping $38). About a week later I get a letter from this doctor via certified mail that was pretty much nothing than an attempt to cover her own ***. It said that I denied the free test offered, and that she was soooo concerned. Then she proceeded to tell me that my UTI symptoms could be symptoms of several deadly things she listed. To say the least I applied for state medical assistance so that I could find a new doctor.

Now it’s July and something is wrong. This past Saturday was a normal day, I was feeling great and hadn’t had problems with the UTI symptoms since my last doctors visit. Saturday evening however, is a different story altogether. I began having severe abdominal pains, cramping and just a general discomfort. My hips were aching as well as my back. I had decided at that point that if it got any worse, I was going to have BF take me into the ER. But it leveled off, didn’t get any better, but didn’t get any worse. I managed to sleep through the night, but had to wake up once to urinate, which I have never done in the past. The next morning when I woke up I was still feeling an ache through my hips, sides, pelvic bone and lower back. This continued through out the day and I think I urinated some 20+ times. Occasionally passing small pieces of what appeared to be white tissue. The tissue is only there every now and then. Sometimes I’ll get it all day, sometimes once a day. It seems to be worse when I have a bowel movement for some reason, but it’s in my urine. By Sunday it was mostly just a constant ache, constant running to the bathroom to urinate and squirming around. At that point I started getting the feeling of nausea and light headedness and my hips were starting to swell some. By Monday I couldn’t take the aches anymore, I couldn’t move without being uncomfortable and the swelling through my hips and abdomen had me really concerned. Unfortunately I had state medical coverage and dealing with those people is like trying to pull teeth from a hungry alligator. I was yelled at, hung up on, pawned off and ignored. After my BF spent literally all day Monday on the phone trying to find out where I could be taken, they said I could go into the Urgent Care Center. So 8:30 Monday night I went in, the doctor gave me a once over, I told him about the past couple of months and all my symptoms frequent urination, abdominal pain and swelling, nausea, diarrhea, fever and a constant ache in my sides, hips and back. He asked for a Urinalysis, which came back with blood in it again, but this time he made mention that it appeared as if I was dehydrated. He told me to obtain a KUB Ultrasound as soon as possible, wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic and sent me home. Tuesday my BF and I spent pretty much all day on the phone with my coverage’s help line, the department of human services and every other office, hospital and clinic in the county but didn’t get anywhere. I HATE GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE THAT’S OF NO ASSISTANCE! Wednesday went pretty much the same, but BF finally found someone that would see me that same day. I went in and seen the new doctor who did a much better job and made sure to look at everything, rather than just the urinary things. She took a Urinalysis in office, which showed the same thing as the one from Monday. While collecting the sample I passed another piece of white tissue, but it didn’t go in the cup, so she had to visually look at it where it was. She sent me to get an Ultrasound of my Pelvic and Abdomen. Which I got lucky, because I hadn’t had an appetite, I hadn’t eaten since the night before and I needed to fast for the ultrasound so they said if I could get down 40 ounces of water they would sneak me in. However I won’t get any results from the blood work until Friday, and Monday for the Ultrasounds. I was supposed to have got the ones from my Urinary Culture from Urgent Care today, but when I called she said that she couldn’t read them, that she would talk to the doctor about it. When asked why, she said that it appeared that it was a contaminated sample. When I commented on that being weird, she said it was because I touched the cup, which I found very offensive seeing that I’m not completely stupid. However, she gave me nothing but a run around when I asked the accuracy of the results the doctor gave me for the Urinalysis being that it was from the same sample. She said she had to talk to the doctor to see what he wanted to do, that she would fax the results to my new doctor and call me right back. But of course she didn’t call me back at all.

I’m really scared as to what could be wrong with me. My left hip stays swollen to the point that I can’t see my hip bone sticking out like I do on the other side (I’m 5’2 and 90lbs), I’ve got a bad ache still across my abdomen, around my hips into my back and sometimes it feels like it goes up into my shoulders. I’m still getting pieces of the white tissue looking substance here and there as well, and since the episode of the cinnamon like looking debris in my urine last month, I’m a week late on my period (and no, I’m not pregnant).

Anybody know what could be wrong that might have gone though something similar? Please help, I could use all the advice I can get at this point.

I apologize if it's too long to read, but if it is then please don't post anything. I need advice and help, not an opinion of how long my question is.

I got my results from the blood work and urine culture, everything came back fine. Won't know anything else until Monday (hopefully) when I get the results of the ultrasounds back.

Got a call from the Doc today and she said that my Blood tests show a slightly high white blood count, which she said is a sign of infection. The urine sample somehow got contaminated with "skin" after leaving the Urgent Care Center, so that was useless. Ultrasounds show that I've got a large cyst in my right ovary and several in my left, however there’s still no explanation for the swelling in my left hip, which is still getting worse day by day. Have to make an appointment w/ a gyno, but the earliest I can get in anywhere so far is mid August because of having state coverage and being a new patient. I’ll post more as I find out. Thanks to everyone for your advice, support and prayers. It means the world to me. Thanks again.

IDoes anyone have problems with reoccurring ovarian cysts? If so, could you help me pinpoint what’s causing my symptoms as I am having a VERY difficult time finding a doctor that will accept my health coverage (it’s through the State)and I’m concerned that the pain I experienced a week ago may have been something to worry about. Also, I can’t eat because my stomach swells causing it to hurt, I have a constant ache through my left hip (which is still swollen) and really bad in my lower back. If anyone has experience with something like this could you please contact me because I’m really worried that something is seriously wrong, but doctors keep pushing me away when they find out I have state coverage. Thanks!

Got a gyno appt for the 4th of Aug. In the meantime I'm cramping really bad today and my left side is still swelling when I eat. It's getting really uncomfortable, but everyone keeps acting like I'm over reacting.

I went through a lot of this B*** S*** with my primary care doctor. It was finally my gynecologist that found out I had, Poly Cystic Ovarian syndrome, then I got refered out and then they found out I had diabetis, then I was refered out again, and ended up with Thyroid Cancer.....

I had several uti's and infections below. When my sugar was regulated, they went away. My sugar did not end up getting regulated till I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.....SHEESh.. it was a run around....I could go on, but I won't.

This is YOUR health we are talking about. GO to the ER now!! Let THEM check you over. Pay $5 a month till its paid. Before you do all of that FIRE your doctor. Then they can't go back to her for direction.

The specialist told me I probably went 10 years with the cancer undiagnosed, along with the diabetis. I kept complaining about the periods, and the pain during intercourse. MY PRIMARY WAS TRYING TO SEND ME TO A SHRINK....Said it was all in my head because I had a history of being molested as a child>>>>>GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! I should of sued em.

You poor poor thing, what an awful thing to go through.

A persistent, chronic UTI is a serious problem, any competent doctor should tell you that. If they are left untreated, they can lead to a more serious infection, which is what I think has happened in your case. The infection will travel upward and eventually settle on the kidneys. The symptoms you describe certainly could lead you in that direction.

They have done ultrasounds of your abdomen and pelvis, but Why not the kidneys? That would have been the first place I would have checked, but I am not a doctor.

I do so wish you all the best, and I hope that this helps a little.

Good Luck to you, and I hope you feel better soon.

Okay, you need to quit having a panic attack and breathe. That's not going to help anything. Tomorrow is Friday. You'll have part of your answers tomorrow. The rest will be on Monday. It might be a kidney infection instead of a urinary tract infection. You have to wait for the tests. This last doctor seems to be taking you seriously and is concerned. Trust in this doctor. She seems to be on the right track. She may send you to a specialist. Quit stressing over the money. As long as you send them $10 a month, you will be fine. Your health is far more important. Freaking out is not going to help so try and chill tonight and wait for tomorrow. Don't drink any alcohol. Stay away from anything illegal as you don't need that showing up in any tests. Drink water and cranberry juice. Take some motrin or something. Make your boyfriend give you a massage and get through tonight. Some of your answers will be there tomorrow. Breathe honey. It will be all right.

I am diabetic - which can cause symptoms of frequent urination. Every 3 months I would test positive for UTI without symptoms. I have started a yeast cleanse diet (yeast is Candida albicans), and have not tested positive for a UTI since.

Your problem sounds much more complex than a systemic yeast syndrome, but I don't know everything about yeast syndromes either. You may want to check out the yeast link at www.hufa.org, and if it sounds like part of your problem, then eating plain, no fruit added yogurt won't hurt.

Doctors are too quick to lable everything an STD. I had a doc diagnose a yeast infection as herpies once upon a time. I went in itchy and asked her to renew my bc perscription and she assumed the itchyness was due to herpies!

The last time I was to the doctor, I went with a toe fungus. The doctor ran $800 in lab work, perscribed five different drugs... 2 for diabetis, kidney failure due to blood in my urine (I had my period) high blood pressure meds, clorestoral, and something else I think.... that was in 2003. Never filled the perscriptions and never felt better in my life. (I have been to the dentist and to urgent care with an ear infection and a cracked rib. My vitals have been taken since then, and I've asked about the blood pressure)

Moral of the story: doctors sometimes tell you some dumb things to get you out of the office and/or get kick backs for drugs. I know I need to go to the doctor. I also know where I'm not going back.

have not gone Thur this particular situation (with the lack of care). I would call my new Dr. - tell of the swollen hip (maybe Even exaggerate the pain if necessary - but somehow get admitted to the hospital. Since they try to get people out of the hospital as fast as possible these days - you should have all your test & results within 1 or 2 days. They can also control the pan for you. You havet o call her - tell her your going to the ER - have them call her and ask her to admitt you - you can no longer go through this pain and fear of what may be happening to you.

When I was 16 it took me almost 3 weeks to convince our family Dr. of the severe pain on my left side, by the time they finally admitted me it took anothe two weeks to find the tumor inside my tube. Since then I have had many operations (a hystorectomy 1 piece at a time) very hard. You need to let you main Dr. now the urgency before you go tothe er & make sure you tell her you really think you need to be admitted to the hospital!!

Well..........I feel like I have read your entire life's history..not being rude but..do you have any state health assistance?..do you work?..the reason I am asking is where I live I work in the county hospital. We have a program which helps patients who have no or low income and if they qualify can get low cost medical care. You need to see a physician who is a general practitioner who can give you a good exam and gather information that he can relay on to a urologist. (treats kidney/bladder)..You certainly sound like you have some type of urinary problem but I am not sure about the swelling in your hip..This isn't the forum to diagnose you and anyone who would should have their license removed..so as I said you should call the hospital of the county you reside in and ask about health care assistance...good luck

Oh my good!!! I don't know how your medical insurance work in the US (I'm from Canada) but if possible I'd go to the ER and stay there until someone can find out precisely what's wrong with u. This is insane! Try suing the first doctor once you get better, she's an a$$. Other than that, I don't know, but it really seem serious, don't wait too long, ok

I too, have UTI" some. They are some of then worse pains, and unless your dr has had one,she has no clue.Anyways, they offer tests for uti's otc ,which you are now aware of.They aslo off,a "pain relief"for uti's which is called AZO.It makes me throw up alot.YOu have to be put on an antiobiotic to get rid of it.Waht worries me more,is that you are steadily having reoccuring UTI's.That can mean an underlining problem.I am NOT a Dr, and you definetly need one.But this time, a caring one.The "tissue"could be kidney stones, but they usually look like small rocks, although sometimes you can't even see them. The "cinnamon"looking stuuf, could be blood in your urine, which is common with kidney stones. You need to contact you local health department.Depending on where you live, they may be able to see you and do another pap,or may know of a dr/clinic that will see you without health insurance and based on your income.MOST states have something like this.I live in VA and although I am one of the lucky ones to have insurance(my hubby carries it through his employer-state job)they have clinics and dr's that will see you on a sliding fee or mininum fee(cheap to nothing)based on your income, especially if you are trying to get state funded insurance and qualify.Anyways, contact your local health department. It can't hurt. Also,IF the pain gets worse or you have "trouble"urinating,go to the ER!!Don't take a chance that something is seriously wrong and because this dr treated you like a poor piece of crap, there are actually ALOT of drs who care and you may be in serious need of help.Take Care and if you would like to email me,feel free....missyandgordon@yahoo.com

Are you seriously on a website asking this?

Go thy unto the nearest emergency room or at least to a metropolitan ER if you have no insurance. Quit fooling around with a doctor that you don't get along with (no matter whose fault it is).
