Because he was a black man. James Earl Jones was the voice of Dark Vader in the first Star Wars and all the rest done throughout the 70's.

Because when David Prowse, the original Vader did the screen test, George Lucas didn't like his voice, so David Prowse wore the suit, and The Voice... James Earl Jones was hired to do the actual talking. He was also the voice for Mufasa in the Lion King...

Well, he was white until he put on the "black" suit, therefore he became a guy dressed in a black suit. Or... they need a deep voice for the character, and James Earl Jones just happened to get the part. He is also the voice for Mufasa, Simba's dad, in the Lion King

Um... because he's voiced by James Earl Jones, who also voiced Mufassa in the Lion King. But to answer why he sounds like that in Star Wars cannon terms, it's because he has a voice changing thing in his suit. Notice that the dosn't sound the same at the very end when Luke takes off his helmet.

Darth Vader is white but through that mask they make it sound all "echo"y and low.

because if your talking about the darth vader from the orginal star trek trilogy he was played by james earl jones and i belive james earl jones also voiced pa in the lion king too!
