Did you know that parrot fish droppings are what make up sand Beaches? well here's how it works Parrot fish feed off of coral and then when it comes out it looks like the tiny white pellets you see on the on a white sand beach. the pellets are lady washed up on the shore from the tide.

Although I agree that parrotfish do contribute to the sandy beaches of tropical coral reef settings. I have to disagree that in other non-reef areas much of the sand is made up of the natural erosion of local rocks.

Several things make up the sand on beaches, including small fragments of rocks and minerals that wash in and/or are eroded from nearby rocks. Check out the black sands, I think they are in Hawaii, and they are black because they are made of fragments of locally eroded volcanic rocks.
