In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. (Genesis 1:1-5)

Genesis, Chapter One:
1-In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2-And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3-And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4-And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5-And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
It seems to me that is an indication of space and time... wouldn't you say? The universe (Earth--our part) and time (the one thing precious to all)... How we live as part of God's universe and use our time there really is the heart of it...

In the beginning God created the heavens... I'd like to also respond to you saying maybe love, because I know that God is love and love never fails and to take it a step further, love is an action. To love some one in the agape form of love, it would have to be with someone made in the same image or born of the same family so to speak. That brings me to why we were created. I believe because for God to be love, and to show His perfect love , He needed someone besides the angels or the heavenly hosts to complete His ability to love , someone who He could breathe life into and that He made in His own image. The human race. He also showed His perfect love by laying His life down (through Jesus) so that we don't have to spend eternity apart from Him. That is if we accept that Jesus is the only perfect sacrifice for our sins and that He is the only way to our Loving Father!
