You can only have a happy life if you decide it will happen. It's all within, not without. There is nothing genetic involved. Just live, carpe diem! Be grateful of everything that happens to you, bad things as well as good things. Being happy just takes one step: the decision to be so!

Worry is another term for fear. I work in a cardiac cath lab and deal with people who face their own mortality everyday. Some come scared out of their mind, others very complacent. One thing I will ask them is what are they afraid of? The procedure, the equipment, the outcome or just the fear of the unknown? Either way, they plan on going through the test and they can't do anything to affect the outcome, I try to remind them of this.
The old saying, 'there is nothing to fear but fear itself', is more true than many think. If you live your life with purpose, if you have entrusted your life into God's hands then you can be assured He has your interest in mind and you can go on in peace.

You can have a happy life by not worrying. Worrying is a choice and a bad habit. It is something that must be overcome by self-will. Happiness comes from not worrying.

It depends on the person's temperament which makes the person act and see life in a different perspective. Temperaments that take life slowly without worrying are :phlegmatic and sanguines (one is introverted and the other is extroverted)
Cholerics(extro) and Melancholics (intro)tend to live life under stress and worrying to much.
It has to do with genetics too.

Find some sort of spirituality - it doesn't have to be religion, just something spiritual - a connection with a Higher Power of some sort. Some good books to read on the subject: Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain, Illusions by Richard Bach. Joyce Meyer is really good if by chance you are a Christian.

There are probably a number of different factors that could affect a persons state of happiness. The two main things I think a person could do to increase his/her state of happiness is to 1) completely accept who he/she is warts and all and 2) learn that arguements are extremely destructive things.
1) Once we realise that our goodness/badness is based on what we actually do rather than what we think, it becomes much easier for us to accept our darker side and not to feel ashamed of who we are. We can choose what to do but we didn't get to choose our dispositions in the first place. God or Nature did that (depending on your belief system)
2) If you can avoid arguements with people and ask yourself what it is that is making you angry when you feel like arguing you will learn to control your temper and your personal relationships will improve as a result. Please compare and contrast with avoid arguements and bottle it all up. The latter is very distructive to you

If something is worrying you that means you need to do something about it. Make a list of everything you can do about your worries (even if they're far fetched) and keep going until you find one you like. Then do that thing.
