I'm 1/16th (or 1/8th, not sure, lots of mixing) Spaniard and French due to my Dominican half. It's not all that significant so I rarely say it. Most usually don't look past 1/4 but if you want to, go ahead. Take pride in it if you feel that you should

Pride is a personal matter. You must be pride of being what you are. But talking about your 1/16th of Cherokee, Irish and English, just remember that one (1) inch have 16 portions called 16ths, therefore, having 1/16th of something (in this case blood) it only indicates that you have a little bit of that blood. But don't worry, 1/16th is more than a centiliter.

Is it important to you?

I think ethnic diversity is a wonderful thing and cultural heritage should be celebrated.

But every individual is different. If it's important to you, yes, totally feel the pride and blessings that God has made you different!

But it's cool too if you'd rather not explore your 1/16th and you feel comfy with who you are turning into. :)

At the least, I think it would be interesting to explore a little and learn about your 1/16ths. Might learn a little more about yourself and the way you were raised.

Good luck!

Joey on Friends once stated he was 1/16th Portuguese when Phoebe lamented that she had never kissed a Portuguese person.

If you are to take pride in something, take pride in being yourself, no matter what you are. If you are 1/16th, then when does it stop? I'm 1/256th German. What difference does it make?

Unless if you knew the person in your family that was Cherokee, there shall be no pride in it, because you have no experience with it.

some people are proud of the range of groups that they are made up of. does it mean that it makes you special to have even a small fraction of groups in your heritage? no. all it means is that there is someone in your family tree is from that group. be proud of who you are, but don't feel like you are somehow specially privileged because of it.

Yes, it means your great great grandparent was that race. I'm also 1/16 Native American. I think it's pretty cool.
