First off it has nothing to do with the age. it has to do with her being SELFISH and STUPID. how dare she risk her child's life because her dumb a** has to smoke. I wish they would hurry up and ban all smoking, it is soo bad for you and your children's health

Smoking is not in any respect solid for the toddler, notwithstanding the end of the being pregnant is the most maximum maximum significant time now to not smoke. So stop now and tell your boyfriend to get the hell out of your face with the smoke. SIDS is a probability, i do not recognize the precise odds offhand, notwithstanding it isn't a diverse. a higher, just about constructive probability, is that your little you in all likelihood could have many ear infections, wheeze each and every time they get a chilly and function to apply albuterol respiration cures. they'll in all likelihood have bronchial asthma too. some human beings get fortunate and function completely healthful childrens, yet maximum will manage a toddler with respiration themes if no longer something else. the toddler's lungs are arising on the fringe of the end of the being pregnant so supply up asap. i imagine your son will be nice see you later as you stop formerly the significant lung arising takes position. solid success!

Maybe I'm the oddball here, but I disagree with most of you. Most doctors now will say that if you are a smoker, it will do more harm to the baby to quit cold turkey than to continue smoking throughout the pregnancy. So it is common practice that they just advice you to cut down and eventually quit if you can. It goes the same with alcohol, a drink here and there isn't going to hurt the baby, you just don't want to be getting smashed. I personally do not drink OR smoke, so I'm not defending it or anything. I'm just stating something that multiple doctors have told a relative of mine during her pregnancy..

If you're a smoker it's near impossible to entirely quit cold turkey as soon as you know you're pregnant especially with the hormones and all the intense emotions they bring on, and not to mention the new worries of impending parenthood. Cigarettes are extremely useful and calming when you're dealing with all that. If you don't smoke you can't fully understand.
I once heard of a docter telling a lady who was trying to quit that she'd honestly do better to cut back as much as she possibly could instead of entirely cutting herself off due to the intense stress that'd put on her. Emotional pain and withdrawl for the mother are ALSO harmful on baby. Take that into consideration.
Several women whom I've known personally have smoked throughout their pregnancies and had perfectly healthy children. It's a definite risk, increasing chances of low birthweight and placental problems that can bring on miscarriage. So needless to say it's not a good thing to smoke when you're pregnant, but sometimes there's hardly any other way about it. Just educate her on the real risks and try to help her to at least cut down as much as she can. Also, helping her in finding other ways to relieve her tensions might aid her in abstaining from smoking so much.

Six diff. OBGYN's told me when I was PG "If you can't quit then cut it back to 3 a day." "It wont hurt the baby more or less if you do or don't quit but, it's helps." I did it and I don't feel bad about it. I smoked 3 a day compared to a pack a day and my daughter is a normal, perfectly healthy 17 month old child. Yes! they frown upon smoking durring pregnancy, but just cutting back will make you feel better. If she can't quit then ask her to cut it back to 3 a day.

I didn't quit but cut down to a half a pack with both my pregnancies. Neither of my kids have ever had any health problems.
I came back to read some of these answers and can't believe what I'm seeing. seraphikah
is right. That's the reason I cut down; because my DOCTOR said it would cause more harm to quit cold turkey. It causes a lot of stress on tha baby.

Not common, but not rare. 30 years ago most mothers did, and most of us turned out all right, but there is definite danger. Besides, she knows better, out parents didn't. Get her some info and ask if she wants a kid who screams all day because they have irritable bowels or asthma. Ask how they'd feel if their kid needed surgery and it was her fault. Then offer to take her to a hypnotist or a doctor. Be supportive or keep your mouth shut.

As far as I am concerned anyone who smokes while pregnant is not prepared for parenthood. You must be ready to put your child first before all your needs and wants. If you can not even stop smoking to help your child have a healthy clean enviornment how can you be ready to be a parent?

no most people know that it's not healthy for the baby and I hope all of you are giving her a hard time for this. Maybe you should take her to a doctor who can explain all the effects that smoking can have on a baby. Or maybe you should look up all that it can do and let her know. It's so sad to see immature people having babies!

To all of those people who think smoking when pregnant is fine!! You don't deserve to be a parent or if you are already a parent your child should be taken off you!

I know of people that have smoked during their pregnancies. It's not advisible, but some still do it.
Hopefully she knows what smoking can do to her unborn child: low birth weight, birth defects and even death. Any chance at those was too much of a chance for me.
