I grew up with the: "The American/Canadian border is the longest unfortified border in the world." And cashiers that would take Canadian coins at KMart.
Canada's famed high prices keep me from visiting, and the health care system...
Othewise, I think about Canada/Canadians like good neighbors. And actually when I think about it, I am grateful that Canada has been pretty cool headed about most things. Of all the world, I'd prefer Canada to be right where it is and I'm happy to meet anyone from Canada.

I have lived in Canada and the US. My mom was Canadian and my dad was from the US. I have found the people in the US hardly ever say anything bad about Canadians, and maybe that's unusual I don't know that has just been my experience. But Canadians do not like the Americans so much........that also may be just my experience.... I have a lot of relatives all over Canada and I love Canada. It is so beautiful and the people are lovely.....but there were uncomfortable moments......I can say though that after 911 the Canadian people said some wonderful things and in fact I was touched by their concern. So I think sometimes the Canadian and US thing is just like brothers and sisters bickering.....sibling rivalry but when push comes to shove family always stands together.

I'm not aware of any hostility between our nations. About the only point of possible conflict I can think of would be the trade agreement that allowed U.S. farmers to sell products in Canada, undermining the prices there and flooding the market so that it was harder for Canadian farmers to make a profit. I find that, largely, Canadians are calmer and quieter than Americans and seem to be a bit better spoken. These are the major differences that I can think of. I have traveled in Canada a bit as you have traveled here. I have met a number of Canadians here too. I like your countrymen and am proud you are our allies. I feel very comfortable with our national relationship and hope nothing ever divides us.

I really don't get to meet many Canadians, but from what I can tell they are just like everyone else. Some good, some bad.
There seem to be different type of people in different areas of the country. But most seem to be culturally very similar to people from the states. Canadians more like people from the states then Mexicans are. I think Canadians and people from the US share a north American culture, where Mexicans are from a Central American culture.
What I can't understand is how they survive the cold winters. I'm in the Midwest and winters here are pretty harsh to us. I can't grasp those winters any higher latitude.

Yes, there has been some hostility between our countries, but we are still "blood-brothers" in the sense that our origins are in the mother country.
So what? Some Canadians are as liberal as some Americans. That is my take on today's situation.
However, I am much older and remember when Iran took over the American embassy. There were one or more Americans who avoided being taken hostage and managed to make it to the Canadian embassy and received asylum there. That bond Canadians I will feel the rest of my life.

All of the Canadians I have met in person have been friendly, but for some reason over the phone I have yet to run across one that wasn't cranky, but attributed that the cold weather/climate because if they called me to order something, it meant that they would be going out in that nasty weather in the near future.

I was in Victoria, B.C. in 2002 and there was a guy performing at a plaza, he then asked: "Who's American? Come on, you don't have to be ashamed!"
What am I supposed to make out of it? For me personally, having a queen is the most ridiculous thing there is. Aren't you guys able to govern yourselves. Do you need micro-country G.B. to take care of you???
Of course as persons I like you (if you are nice to me.)

I think that most people in the world are like most of the other people in the world--basically nice people with some jerks thrown in to liven up the mix.
