Well it could be a ribbon. black snake, or a baby cottonmouth snake Check out this website http://www.wf.net/~snake/moccasin.htm. Louisiana is known for the cottonmouth snake. My brother lives in Southwest Louisiana, and they are bad over there.

It does not match the description of any venomous snakes in Louisiana, many snakes that are harmless have the ability to flaten thier heads to triangls making them appear venomous. most likly it was a ribbon snake but it is hard to tell without seing the snake

The snake is more than likely an Eastern Garter Snake Thamnophis sirtalis . Perfectly harmless. They eat fish and worms and Make wonderful Pets. The do not get too large and are easy to feed for people who do not like feeding mice to snakes.

Definitely a garter snake or ribbon snake. They're (to my knowledge) the only striped snakes in North America, other than rosy boas... In any case, There are no venomous snakes in this country (or anywhere I don't think) with that pattern, very distinctive.
*side note, baby venomous snakes are in fact JUST as dangerous as as adults in terms of potency.

its just a black snake...rat snake...perfectly harmless, they can get mean though and if it was that small that means it was a baby and the momma isnt far behinde...but not to worry, they are harmless, if one bites you wash it with soap and water you will be fine, my sugestion is if you see one just let it be, but if it is bothering you stomp on the ground a few times it will sence the dange and once it lets down its gaurd it will go away, or you could get some1 who knows what they are doing to catch it..

It is a gardner snake and it is harmless to you. They are often found around houses and many people think they are bad snakes and kill them but they are actually benificial, unless they start breeding then u may get to many. Just let him go away from your house and he prob wont return unless he/she has family.
