The best place to go is freewebs.com. It definitely beats Yahoo Geocities and all the other free website places out there. Whether you're a beginner or you actually know HTML or CSS, Freewebs is the best. And there are no ads on your site for 60 days.

Geocities.com will give you over 10 megabytes of space for free as well as provide you with web building tools. The catch is, however, they are allowed to post advertisement on the right hand side of your web site.
