My gf teaches at a public high school in Broward, so I have seen been through this before. She has a mixed group of students, some very smart, others not so smart, and everything in between. When I graduated from high school (in the North) no one expected to graduate without being able to pass tests and retain that knowledge.

Just showing up to class does not entitle anyone to a diploma!
The FCAT is harder for some people, just like EVERYTHING is harder for some and easier for others. But it is not impossible, and certainly not asking too much to pass the test prior to graduating.

I'm not sure what the FCAT is exactly, but I'm assuming that it's a public school test in high school or for graduation.

The basic goal of public schools in each state is for their students to do the best they can on the madatory state tests, not the "core" classes. Even the most "undecent" school have focus on this. Based on the fact that the FCAT was most likely created by white, black, hispanic, and asian people, it's not designed to opress a particular race.

Your statement "it is only aimed at those children who can go to a decent school" is hardly valid based on the above evidence. On the contrary, a student who doesn't do very good at all on the FCAT at a "bad" school might look very promising to colleges, rather than a score much higher by a student at a "good" school.

I was in Florida for about a year & a half and I know this is a controversy. You can rise above the controversy and completely ignore their attempts at dividing people if you study really hard, ask questions, any questions, in order to understand what you are studying. If you know what you know, and know what they know, then you'll know more than they do. Go get 'em.
