Open it in a graphic program such as Paint (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint) and do a "Save as" selecting the format you want from the "Type" list under where you type the filename.

Since you haven't specified what OS you have [Windows, Linux, MAC] and which version[Windows 98, 2000, XP etc]; I'm assuming that you have Windows XP.

Now, if you'll go to "Start" and to "Programs" and to "Accessories", you'll find "Paint" there. Double click to open "Paint". Now, select the picture that you want to change and copy it from wherever it is. Paste it in "Paint" by using the ctrl v command, after bringing your cursor to the white portion of the blank page there and clicking to set your cursor there.

Now, go to "File" [top left hand corner], "Save" or "save as..", type in the name you want to save the image as and click on the arrow pointing downwards in the box below that. From the drop down menu that appears, select the kind of format that you would like this file to be in. Click "Save". Your file will now be available to you in the new format.

While doing a save, you might do better to "save as" and give the new file a slightly different name like, for example, "my pic" being the original, I'd do "Save as" and give the new image title "my pic, back" so that the saving does not have me lose the original pic which I may need for something else in future.

I hope this was easy enough for you to follow and has helped you resolve the issue.

All the best.

Cheers
