I used to love that show so much I would cry when it came on I was so happy. The wave motion gun! That was some sweet Sci-fi stuff.

I Napsterized a bunch of TV themes and it took me a while to find that one, but it was worth it. I would get chill bumps everytime the show came on.

That was one of the best cartoon shows I remember growing up. It was so wild how the storylines seemed mature and cartoonish all at the same time. I mean, the captain died, didn't one of the main officers get killed too? And I liked how they built up to the first wave motion gun firing, and the idea that they didn't have to resort to using it every show.

I wish that would come out on DVD soon. If it is out, I don't remember it.

Did you know that there was a Year 2? I don't remember which character it was, I think it was the navigator, is the new captain, and I think the storyline has some superpower trying to invade earth, and by this time there are a fleet of starships, but they don't even put a dent into this armada. And I think it may have been year 2 that Deslock actually helps the earth...or was that at the end of year one?

Star Blazers is based upon the Space Cruiser Yamoto anime series.
What we know as the first season (the trip to Iscandar and the war with the Comet Empire) was actually the first two Yamoto series adapted and translated for us.
While there have been other Yamoto series, the franchise is currently in legal limbo over who exactly owns the rights because of confusion between all the different versions.

wow that was a while back, heck even before the robotech series, starblazers wasn't that way back in 1973 if I'm correct, 12 years before robotech, let me think the first season, titled "Quest for Iscandar," that was back in 1974 i believe, to tell the truth i've only seen small clips of it, i'm more of a robotech fan but this link makes it sound so cool.
