What if it were impossible to keep anything hidden?

society would cease to exist. powerful people have power because they know something everyone else doesnt. once everyone knows their secrets then they would no longer be powerful. then no one would have any incentive to be super succesful, if thre was an eqal playing field. crime would dissappear. everyone would act like they were in church everyday.

More people would realize that it's not always about them, because while they're worried about how they look and act, other people wouldn't give a hoot as to whether or not someone else has a bad hair day or what they did Saturday night.

Many people would see that they aren't the only ones who messed up. Maybe people who made many mistakes would realize that they aren't the only ones who mess up their lives. Maybe the people who haven't done much wrong would see how messed up some people's lives are and become prideful of their own near-"perfect" life.

It's a question that requires extra thought... If we could know what anyone and everyone was thinking, would we THINK differently? Would we have different thoughts, either as a natural reaction to the knowlege that other people's thoughts would offer, or a chosen reaction to knowing that other people could hear our own?

Would we learn faster? Would the human vocabulary expand to accomodate the abstract visions and ideas that the mind puts together? Would practice, as with all practiced arts, become something more? Perhaps they would allow the practitioners of these techniques to "share" the especially complicated thoughts, such as colors and sights, textures and tastes and smells, objects that we cannot simply "hear"? Would we call these people psychic, clairvoyant, or something totally different? Would anyone be able to block others from hearing their thoughts?

Would love become easier when one could tell that another loved them, or more complicated when they found that each person's definition and value of love is different? Would hate spread out of distrust of the human mind, or cease to exist when people saw what others were thinking? Again, I refer to paragraph three and ask, would thoughts that provoke hate and distrust cease to exist, perhaps out of fear of those thoughts being heard and enemies made? Would we become a fearful race?

I am sorry for making so many of these answers questions in form. These are only thoughts that cannot be effectively proven, since we can't KNOW what everyone else is thinking, and are in that way, still only questions waiting for an answer. Maybe these conclusions will help you think the matter over. As for me, it is a puzzle that doesn't need to be solved, but is interesting to think over. Thank you for asking such an intriguing question.

Life would be horrible. There would be no secrets, thus we would cease to be unique. Imagine if your boss knew how much you hated him, or that your enemy knew your thoughts. Take that further. What if businesses knew each other's secrets? What if I was a government official and could find out who was leaking what? What if I was a policemen or lawyer? There is no end to all the horrific possiblilites. Thus, these thoughts would never form because people would not want to reveal their true feelings, and the only thoughts formed will be those thoughts acceptable to society because society is listening. So basically, everyone would be fake, boring and drone like. We need secrets to share. They bring us together and tear us apart. They are what life interesting.

1. Boring. There would be no surprises! There would be no need to talk then. Just talk thru mind...that's dead boring.
2. Crazy. Imagine standing in a crowd and ur mind will be full of what others are thinking. How annoying is that? U can't have any time alone to think abt urself!

totally distractful... look, it's really great being honest, but some things should be left unsaid and unspoken... wouldn't it be unbalance? all things exposed? all things known? this world was meant for people to explore, to think, to act and to learn... if everything is shown, then wouldn't it be a distraction to development? to change? to everyone for that reason/manner?

Then we'd all realize you're gay...not that there's anything wrong with that because God forbid you'd be able to read my thoughts and discover anything politically incorrect.

We wouldn't be online asking silly questions because we'd be tired of hearing what other people think.
