Removing the smell of cat urine from a carpet is one of the most difficult tasks on the planet. Cats produce pheromones in their urine on purpose to let other animals know that they are in the neighborhood. These compounds are designed to last nearly forever. However, they can best be neutrallized with chlorine bleach. Often you have to pull the carpet up and also wash the bare floor down below the stained carpet before the smell can be completely eradicated. If the wood below the carpet is unfinished such as plywood, then you will need to paint or varnish the area in order to seal the smell into the wood. Good luck

The absolute best way is with a carpet cleaner - either a rental or one you can borrow. If you don't want to go that route it gets a bit messy but can be done.

Take a bunch of paper towels and sop up the mess (blot, don't rub) until the towels come up dry. Spray on any liquid carpet cleaner. They all really work about the same, so it really doesn't matter which. Blot that up until it is dry. Keep repeating this until the stain is gone. If it is really bad, you can brush the carpet with a scrub brush to work the stain out.

After all is done and the carpet dries, you'll need to spray some carpet deodorizer on the spot. Pet stores sell stuff to get rid of pet odor. It works pretty well.

I've had my dog do the same thing on my carpets. I went and bought a carpet cleaner. It's way better than scrubbing pee out of carpets.

Good luck to you.

Use a tablespoon of white vinegar to a cup of cold water. Daub the spot, DO NOT RUB. do not soak the carpet. After cleaning in this manner, more than once if needed, Daub with clear cold water.
Use a towel and press down to wick the water. When you have most of it wicked, then lay a folded dry towel over the spot, placing a weight on the towel. Leave it 12 hours or so. The towel should have wicked the remaining moisture. Vinegar neutralizes the acidity, prevents discoloration, and disguises the odor. Your cat should refrain from repeating, at least on that spot.

Natures marical. It it great and has bacteria that actually break down the ammonia in the cat piss so that it doesnt smell anymore. BUT....you have to do it BEFORE you wash it. If its washed and dried it no longer works. Spend the couple of bucks unless you like smelling that forever.
I know from experience.
