STOP! LADY, you DO NOT want that tree. If you never took anybody advise before, you'll be glad you took mine. That tree is a living nightmare that haunts every yard you see it in. just like you, they saw it, wanted it & now they hate with a passion.

JACARANDA mimosifolia. Better known as MESS-O-RANDA. That tree puts out more yard waste per sq ft then 10 sq miles of rain forest. They call the BLUE MULCH. referring to the ongoing rain fall of those nasty blue flowers that stick to everything. That tree dumps litter 365 days of the year. If you don't rake up the blue mulch at least weekly, it acts like thick mulch & kills all burier under it. no sooner then then the blue stops & the tiny 1/8 in leaves start to drop. thousands & thousands rain down from aug to nov. then in nov it starts dumping the twigs those tiny leaves came from, the tigs fall until the end of jan. then the 18 in long sticks that held the twigs that heald the tiny leaves start to drop. they drop until the end of may. and thats when the blue mulch starts all over again.

you like the tree, talk a neighbor into putting in their yard. not a real close neighbor. that way you can enjoy it's color & they can clean up the mess. take a walk, ask those who have one? no need to go to the door, they are out in the yard raking.

put that tree in your yard and.... you'll be sorry! don't say i didn't warn you.

They sound like Jacaranda trees. They are actually late blooming(as everything is)this year. Usually they start in May. They are fast growing and will get about 30-40 feet tall. But don't plant one anywhere near your house doors. The sticky flowers will get tracked inside.

I think it must be sage you're talking about. Most of the hills of southern CA don't really have wild trees, as it's almost a desert down there. There are bushes, though, which are sage. I'm thinking thats what you must mean. My hubby is a native southern Californian and I lived there for 12 years, and that's the best we could come up with.

Jacaranda aka Bignoniaceae mimosifolia.
This beautiful tree is originally from Hawaii.

Try your nearest garden center or local nursery. Lowe's may even be able to special order it for you.

Blue oak (Quercus douglasii) maybe. They're native only to California. It has blue-green leaves. Try googling it.
