C major is where to start cause they are all natural notes. The 6th degree yield the scales relative minor which is a minor. try the circle of decending fifths. The major scal formula is w-w-h-w-w-w-h ( w=whole step, h=half step). Whole step would bespanning over two frets, half step would be spanning over one fret. Circle of fifths=c,g,d,a e,b, then g flat, d flat,a flat, e flat, b flat, f. If you notice, as you ascend up to different keys, each scale has a sharp added( for ex. g has an f sharp and so on) Dude, just get a couple of books on it and see for your self, if you are unable to get lessons. But this is the basics in understaning each key. Also chord progressions. I M, IIm, IIIM, IVM, V7, VIm, VII diminished, practice this in all keys. Hope this helps. Its the basics!!!
