the medium for soft pastel

I'm wondering if you mean, what "medium" to use with soft pastel?

The only ingredients in soft pastel are dry pigment, and gum arabic to hold it together (much like watercolour), so you can actually dilute them with water or alcohol - though this reduces the pastel's ability to adhere to paper.

The vehicle used in oil pastel is a non-drying linseed oil, so accordingly, you can blend them with turpentine or linseed oil.

If that's not what you mean, then the first answer you received is the correct one ;-)
