The at home pregnancy tests are VERY reliable these days. The 24-48 hour ones are not so much, but the normal tests are very very accurate. Many doctors offices use those as the first test anyway. They are cheaper than lab tests and do the same thing essentially.

If you are getting conflicting results, then consult your doctor. There may be other issues at play.

You know I had that problem myself some time ago. I am now pregnant for the fourth time and only with one did a home pregnancy test work. I took like four or five of them over two month period and it came back negative everytime. Then I go into the hospital and take one, which is actually more accurate since they use your blood, and it comes back positive. My advice is to seek a doctor that will use urine and take blood to determine your pregnant. The home pregnancy test are great but not for everyone. They are used based off your hormone level and you may not have a strong one, so the test will not detect it and say your not pregnant, even though you maybe.

The doctor is going to tell you to take a home test before coming in anyway, so you might as well ease your curiosity and test. E.P.T is just fine. Make sure you have all your dates right in your head if you can. The only time you are likely to get a false positive is if you have a problem but since you would be seeing a doctor anyway it would get straightened out rather quickly. You are most likely not going to have a false negative if you have waited till you are a day or two late for your period. I know the packages say the tests can test 4 days before your missed period but if you read the info sheets the accuracy goes down hill pretty quickly at that point because the chemical it tests hCG is just too diluted at that point to be reliable. I hope that helps and I hope you get the result you are looking for.

It seems to me like the answer should be obvious. Trust the doctors test. A home test, if used correctly, is pretty accurate, but you should always test more than once with a home test. The doctors test uses blood and have trained lab doctors looking at the sample.

I would do the home first. But as stated before you usually want to take 2 tests. Don't buy the double pack though, they come from the same batch so if there is a defect it will show up usually in both tests (trust me, I had it happen and it was horrible). Wait a week and then confirm with a doctor.

Home tests these days are as sensitive or even more sensitive than the one in the doctor's office. The only more sensitive test that the doctor does is a blood test, and they usually won't do a blood test unless you've missed your period for several weeks or if you already had a positive urine test. Dollar Tree tests are really cheap, but are very sensitive and still accurate.

Trust the more sensitive one of the two: the doctor's test. At home tests are very accurate too but unless you keep getting conflicting results then you don't need to worry about having more testing done.

the modern urine pregnancy tests are usually very sensitive and can detect quite early pregnancies, be it a home pregnancy test or a doctor's test kit. They usually have the same degree of accuracy.

False negatives (the test shows negative but you are actually pregnant) is very common due to various reasons such as very early pregnancy or very dilute urine. In fact , false negatives may be more common in the doctor's clinic because you are usually to drink a lot of water and to hold your urine and as a result the urine becomes very dilute and may show a negative result. Sometimes in a busy clinic, urine samples of different patients may also be accidentally switched.

On the other hand, false positive (the test shows positive result but you are actually not pregnany) is very rare.

The doctor's are always right. The home tests very rarely give false positives. Doctor's can do blood tests and those are always on point.

The doctors test for sure, it actually measures the amount of HCG (a hormone preg ladies produce). You could ask the doctor to give you a blood test, which is the most accurate pregnacy test.
