You have to be very careful about the exposure of these separate species. Rabbits and guinea pigs are susceptible to different diseases, and both can carry some that are very bad for the other. Check with your vet and find out first if it is safe to do this, and then get advice. Both are technically prey animals, so I don't think fighting should be a problem, but you never know.
If one or both were recently purchased from a pet store, do not mix them. Many diseases are silent in one animal, and then can really hurt the other.

It's good to start doing this when they are babies, but it will work either way.
Every day put the two animals together in either the largest cage or a confined area (i.e. a room, cardboard box, etc...) for about 10 minutes. After a few days increase this to 20 minutes, then 30, and continue until they are comfortable around each other. This is what worked for me.
I have to warn you, though, some animals are not compatible. If one bites the other, do not try to put them back together. They could become vicious and one animal will probably be killed.
Good luck!

Yup, they should never be housed together as they can spread disease to each other. Rabbits can be aggressive to other animals. Also, they have different dietary needs.

Well, if you want them not to fight, don't do anything. At the zoo in my city, the just tolerate each other. I don't know if they can be "friends", unless the both share little toys or something.
