A lot of libraries have online catalogs, where you can look to see if they have the book.
You could try to phone them, but if they are at all busy they may ask you to come down to look in the catalog yourself.
Don't forget about the libraries at colleges - they may have this even if the public library does not.

Also if you go to a large bookstore like Barnes and Noble you can sit and read it all you want.
