Wear a rubber band on your wrist or tie some string to your finger. Before you lie or tell a rumor, look at the rubber band/string and realize what your doing. Stop in your tracks. Just remember, one thing leads to another, and you could end up in a horrible situation. Also maybe talk to the school conselor or maybe your parents about your parents if you feel you need more help. It also helps to keep a journal, if you haven't started one already, and everytime you tell a false rumor or tell a lie write it down for future reference. Good luck!

Problem comes from low self esteem. It's called "leveling" when we gossip to bring people to our level so that we can feel better about ourselves.

Yipes! How do we do raise our self esteem without paying big bucks to talk to a professional?

Maybe by first recognizing that you are a good person who has some friends and family who love and accept you just because you are you. Carry a little booklet in your purse: Be self-aware and each time you do it, make a tally mark giving yourself a demerit. For every day you succeed in not doing any of it, reward yourself. That should get rid of the bad habit and you will be so proud of yourself having overcome a big problem.

My best solution is to practice telling the truth. Try it on your friends or someone you trust and practice not lying behind people backs. The more you do it, the less you will lie about stuff.

At least you know you have a problem. Do you know Jesus? Are you a Christian? Having a church home to go to might help you or you could try therapy. I pray you get help before you really end up hurting yourself and others.
