I had an ultrasound done this week, and was told that my baby measured 19 weeks, and this corresponds with the other ultrasound measurements I have had done previously. At my doctor's appointment last night, he measured my uterus, and said that it is only about 16 weeks in size. Can anybody give me some insight as to why this is?

The measurements are done on a six inch screen by hand by a tech where being off by a pixel effects the calculation. Measurements go into a calculation that is at best an estimate. If you need a late term ultrasound and they predict a birth weight, they should tell you they could be off by as much as a 2 pounds. It's an estimate, not an exact measurement.

well to tell you the truth i only ever trusted the ultrasounds estimates never the doctors, for my first pregnancy i had 2 different doctors, it was a NIGHTMARE one would say the uterus was small he would say size was 12 when i was actually 15 then the other doctor would say that my uterus and baby was HUGE and say i was 38 when i was only 35 they totally confused me so i had an ultrasound done and it was perfect they have the actual tools to measure properly the doctors can only estimate to an extent so i wouldnt worry to much hope ive helped CONGRATS for the BUB

Could be that your uterus is tilted backwards (nothing to worry about) it changes measurements but as someone else said it is only estimates don't worry unless the doctor does

this happened to my cousin... the measurements are to ensure that the baby is growing, but they aren't always right... she had several ultrasounds to monitor the baby's growth and the baby was born healthy... my cousin is slender...

hth!
