what kind of food? Bettas are picky eaters, needing time to adjust to new foods. We feed ours the tiny little pellets specially made for Bettas...premium stuff. I thought it was a little expensive at first, but I love to see them gobble it up. Only supposed to feed 2 - 4 pellets 2 or 3 X a day. Also, the water doesn't get cloudy as fast. Glad I got that food and so are the Bettas!

If you tried pellets, it could be too large for him to take. It could also be preference, based on flavour (funny, I know) or what it was fed before you took it home. Another option, as a supplement, is freeze-dried foods such as bloodworms (sounds gross, but it's really not that bad). I have one betta fish who will only eat those and the occaisional flake, another who will only eat pellets, but thankfully the other two are easy-going. All housed seperately, of course.

expensive Laughter P, perhaps this could help! you notice, only like human beings and different animals for that count, Bettas have their own personalities. some are lazy, some are outgoing and actually energetic, and others are only downright fussy. i think of you have a Betta it somewhat is extremely like mine, picky approximately nutrition. perhaps what you have isn't in basic terms a undertaking with regard to the seniority of the fish being interior our surroundings that it somewhat is, yet of that is distaste for the nutrition which you're feeding it. My betta, case in point, will somewhat no longer devour any pellets in any admire. He only jiggles them around in his mouth and spits them out after some seconds. I advise attempting considered one of those BettaMin formulation, all are incredibly much less high priced, costing around $a million.50 in line with field. The formulation that i'm at present feeding my little guy is BettaMin Tropical Medley, that's in specific made for Bettas and includes shade enhancers to convey out the brightness and astonishing thing with regard to the fish. in spite of the indisputable fact that i could advise procuring this nutrition, shop at it and attempt day after today to work out if he's only adjusting or if he somewhat would not like the nutrition. Then, determine what should be achieved based on your individual determination and the education I actual have profided above

The first three days I had my betta he would not eat. And I was trying to feed him the pellet food. Then I looked it up on the net and it said they like blood worms. So I got a can of those and he started eating right away....and he even started eating the pellet food as well. Maybe he just wants something different....IDK

Most likely if he is a smaller beta, those big round brown pellets are too big for them. My smaller beta I've seen spit them out a couple of times before he could actually eat it. But, if your beta really cant eat the pellets and you have appropriate flakes for him, because betas have different requirements than goldfish (make sure they are special beta flakes and not just goldfish flakes) then it's fine to just feed him that nutil he gets bigger when you can try again with the pellets, but its perfectly fine to feed him flakes his whole life.

the food was either too big for his mouth, or too hard. Usually it is best to feed betta fish flakes instead as it will easily fit into his mouth and also breaks down easier.

Maybe the food you gave is too big for him. Try to make it smaller or maybe you can try bloodworm instead.
