People try to read WAY too much meaning into the music from 1965 - 1975. There really isn't that much meaning in it, including Dylan's work. Most of it was written under some form of chemical influence, and people back in the day thought it was meaningful and cool. It wasn't meaningful music, for the most part.
Hotel California just tells an interesting story. Just take it at face value. It can stand on its own merits like that.

At 1st,I thought it's romantic-then I realized it's frightening.I considered it as a horror movie.
I think it means what u like at the very start"mostly impressed by the looks" & what u wanna badly have may turn out to be not satisfying at all after a while-but u can't get rid of the consequences. What's done is done.
It may also refers to the conflicts inside somebody between what he wants & what the truth is..or any self realizing conflicts u can come up with.
Anyway,I like the song.Thx 4 Q.

It's all about a small town Texas boy getting all caught up in the wild California lifestyle back in the 70's.
The rest is just poetic license.
