Classic Rock-specifically, the period from1963 (the Beatles break in the UK) to approximately 1985 (the break-up of the original line-up of Van Halen and July 13th's [hey-it was 21 years ago TODAY...] Live Aid worldwide broadcast). Includes surf sounds from the Beach Boys, Dylan being called a "Judas" for making the transition from folk to rock, the birth of the "Boss Radio" top 30 format on 93-KHJ (930 AM) in 'Boss Angeles' [May, 1965], "flower-power" acid-fueled psychedelia in San Francisco on one coast while the 'Exploding Plastic Inevitable' shows of the Velvet Underground thrill the leather-wearing amphetamine-eating east-coasters, the Monterey International Pop Festival in NorCal in June of '67 (with the debut of Janis Joplin and the first U.S. performances by the Who and Hendrix) sets the stage for half-a-million who attended Woodstock in August, 1969-and that's just the 60s!! {note: classic rockers do not recognize 70s disco as music}

Classic rock - That is when rock was the best & most creative. Any crazy idea was a possible song. Some of the most profound rock songs came out of the 60's & 70's, which are still played today. That is why classic rock continues to be my favorite style of music.

Rock for sure. Its all about the lyrics and the drums. The lyrics make a song, if their too rhyme that's dorky, too mushy and its not rock.
The drums are like the heartbeat of the song, they have to stand out but not be too over-powering. Also all the sounds (guitar, drums, bass, singer) can just mush together that's just boring. Its a fine line but with the right people can be easily found.
I think good examples of good rock is: Shinedown, Nickelback & Creed.
Not so good: maybe...Foofighters & R.E.M.
(This is all just my personal opinion and preference)

My favorite styles were from the early 60s. I loved the crooners,Bobby Vee,Booby Vinton,Brian Hyland to name but a few. I love doowop from the late 50s & early 60s. There were many great doowop songs that were only played on the East Coast, like "Mr Magic Moon" by the Gleems. Also wonderful were the early soul artists,like Mary Wells & the Rivingtons.

I love all rock music types because I pretty much grew up listening to my dad's rock songs, even though I was young and didn't know that I liked it then. I also like it because whenever I'm really stressed out about something I can listen to it and it makes me feel better for some reason.

punk, only because i don't have much variety when it comes to music. the only thing i listen to is green day. i define punk as standing up for who you are and not taking anything that you don't like from anybody. they've really showed that in their music. especially since they don't care about what they say about politics because they are allowed to have a voice, even if nobody is listening.
music should have meaning, and i can relate to them very well
