Ants come in for two reasons, food and water, the most common reason being water.
You can either eliminate the the source or you can set bait. There are many types of bait but you would want to look for one that you would put around the perimeter of your house, you don't want them to drop dead as soon as they touch it. Get one that they think is food so they take it back to the colony and give to the queen, soon as she eats it she's gone, no more queen, no more ants.
Also to get rid of ant remaining ants in your house you'd just want to set some traps around water sources (bathroom, kitchen) and also around the food sources (fridge, trash cans). If you are not sure which baits to get ask someone at your hardware/garden supply store.
If this doesn't work I would call an exterminator.

Ortho Home Max. Go around the baseboards inside your entire house and you'll never see another ant again.

I used to make a line of turmeric powder to block the entry of ants inside the main door as suggested by my room mate and it worked for me.You can also try that.

Assuming you don't want to use poison (pesticides), which I don't either, there are a few things you can try. Ants will not cross boric acid, babypowder, or cinnamon, so you can lay a line of any of these to block their path. Small holes can be filled with mentholated rub or a bit of cotton soaked in clove oil. They don't like any "hot" aromatic oils. Good luck!

Ants refuse to walk over/through talcolm powder, so dust some powder where they're entering and seal up all holes.

True story: one time my cat barfed right by the front door during the night. Huge chunks of undigested food plus some hairballs....really gross.
I came downstairs barefoot as I usually do and almost slipped in it. But what caught my eye, and made me realize there was a huge pile of puke there was the millions of ants who had apparently slipped under our front door to feast on their prize!
I freaked out, my BF got pissed cuz I woke him up, and then he took a bottle of Fantastic cleaner and sprayed them. They were dead in a matter of seconds.
Then the bastard left me to clean up the puke, plus lots of ant bodies.
But I guess the Fantastic cleaner worked!

Ants will not walk over a chalk line so try drawing one where they come in.
