In the greatest number of compounds, definately hydrogen by far. All organic compounds contain hydrogen and carbon therefore the two are still tied. Carbon is found in a few compounds without Hydrogen such as graphite and carbon dioxide, so it gains appx another 100 compounds, however hydrogen is found in all BL acids and since there are hundreds of these compounds mening hydrogen has pulled into the lead. Now you also got to account for the fact that Hydrogen acts as both a metal and nonmetal meanig it can take on another numerous compounds.
So as you can see by doing a rough "count," Hydrogen is by far in the most number of compounds. Even though it is not the most abundant due to its low mass.

Remember when hydrogen is found in the universe it's not in a compound. It's H2 which is a molecule.
I don't think it's oxygen. Carbon would be my bet.
