The basic benefit rate is 55% of your average insured earnings up to a maximum amount of $413 per week. Your EI payment is a taxable income, meaning federal and provincial or territorial taxes, if it applies, will be deducted from your payment.

You could receive a higher benefit rate if you are in a low-income family — net income up to a maximum of $25,921 per year — with children and you or your spouse receive the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) , you are entitled to the Family Supplement.

well...in the U.S. (and I imagine it varies from State to State)...maternity leave just means that you are allowed to take off when you have the baby and you are guaranteed to have your job back after six weeks. Unfortunately, this leave does not include any pay or benefits (with the exception of insurance benefits, if provided by your employer). It also does not use up your sick or vacation time (two weeks in most cases) but you can choose to use that two weeks if you need the pay. If you are gone longer than the six weeks allowed, you are not guaranteed your position back if it becomes unavailable.

It depends on where you live and what benefits you have from your work. If you don't get paid maternity leave from your work, you won't get any money unless you get short-term disability. Thanks to the FMLA you are able to take 6 weeks off without pay and your employer is supposed to hold a position for you.

i'm from california, and currently on leave for one more week. i took the full 12 weeks allowed by law. the first 6 weeks is considered "disability leave" while the last 6 weeks is called "paid family leave" which can be taken anytime during the first year of your child's life (bonding with a child). during the 12 weeks you will receive approximately 55% of your paycheck. you get paid every 14 days and it is not taxed at the time. like i said, i'm almost done with my leave and it went by so quickly! enjoy every moment you can...good luck!

Depends on the company you work for. At my job, the woman gets 6 weeks off with full pay and can take up to 12 weeks off at 60% pay.
