Nascar?!..... NO WAY!!!!!!!
Formula 1 drivers are way better, because although they have all that technology incorporated into the car, a lot of systems that would have mmade the driver's life easier are banned. For example, the ABS. It has been banned since 1993 or something like that, and so far braking is one of the big tests of skill for an F1 driver. Plus gadgets to protect the engine from self-destruction. Banned. Right now, an engine has to last for two races, and the pilot is responsible for looking after it.
Plus, G forces experienced by F1 drivers are higher than those in nascar. Some pilots described a force of around 6 G on the braking for Turn 1 of the adapted Indianapolis Speedway (Turn 1 of the twisty inside section, built especially for Formula 1).
That's why F1 drivers have to be fit. Really fit. As fit as, probably, marathon athletes or something like that. Because, for two hours, they run a marathon, at 60 degrees Celsius, with G forces that want to rip your head cleanly off your shoulders. I saw some photos of Mchael Schumacher, described to be the most fit F1 driver, and boy, has he got big muscles...
Plus, in 2003, when Montoya and Jeff Gordon switched cars for a few minutes (Montoya was driving for Williams at that time) Gordon said that he wouldn't go to F1 if he was offered the chance. That drive below the limits scared him off. And I bet it would scare any nascar driver off, if he wouldn't be used with open-wheel racing.
In the end, there are no pilots better than F1 pilots. sorry nascar fans, but THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!!

I think a top nascar racer (Jeff Gordon) could get in a formula 1 car and easily compete for a top 5 win on any track although a formula 1 driver could not do the same , i guess we will find out next year with Juan Montoya...so my answer is nascar driver!!!

Formula 1 drivers. Let's put it this way....you DO see Formula 1 drivers getting NASCAR rides, but you DO NOT see NASCAR drivers being offered Formala 1 rides. The reason being is that most do not have road racing backgrounds (and if they did at one time they have lost touch since being in NASCAR). Road racing is far more difficult to learn than oval racing...most of who have tried to learn both will tell you. Road racing in a Formula 1 car also takes a lot of physical endurance in terms of G loading. Granted, NASCAR cars do take a lot of G loading on some of the tracks they race on and they do race for longer race distances, most qualified racing instructors will tell you that a driver must be fitter to compete in Formula 1 versus NASCAR.

NASCAR drivers. First of all, this kind of racing started from a bunch of good ole boys wanting to see who had the fastest car. The original cars were actually souped up road cars hence the name "stock cars". Secondly, NASCAR has become one of the top fan drawing sports, second only to Football. The NASCAR drivers I have met (and in my career, it's been quite a few), are genuinely nice guys. A good many of them are just good ole boys who happen to know how to drive fast and win. They love their fans and they are not afraid to state their opinion. Also, they speak English! What other sport draws fans three to four days before the event in hopes of seeing their favorite driver? NASCAR is an all american sport and will be around long after many of these other sports have died out.

nascar drivers are better than formula 1 drivers because in formula 1 it's all about traction control devices, all the driver has to do is steer the car, while the computer keeps the wheels from spinning through the corners.nascar drivers don't have traction control devices, they manhandle their cars around the track.

I have a lot of respect for both, Nascar drivers have to be able to handle their cars at 200mph for 5 hours at a time, where as F1 driver have to be able to manuver their cars at road courses which means that they have to stay alert for different turns and such. I don't think either is better than the other, they each have their strong points.

Having never driven either, I have recently read a lot from drivers about how difficult it is to go from Formula to NASCAR when talking about Montoya and Patrick. I understand Tony Stewart came from there and read where it's quite difficult.

victorrad_n1, thats the most ridiculous bit of logic ever.....Gordon was not even a second off of Montoya's pace in his first time in a F1 car. Plus, Gordon has a lifetime contract with Hendrick....why would he want to go to F1, he's got it made! You're a retard.
You can't judge the two sports. Its too totally different types or racing. I'm a fan of both but I'm a bigger fan of NASCAR....but if you put either of them in the other's car....they would struggle(sorry, Montoya).
Its like asking who the best musician is...Beethoven or Jimmy Page....its two totally different styles.
